THE L.A.F.A. Nominees for OAP's in Lagos are out....

The Locally Acquired Foreign Accents (L.A.F.A.) Nominees for OAP's in Lagos are here and of course we couldn't put everyone on the list.

Only the Best of the Best accents could make it here and it was a long and tough decision we had to make based on so many nominations from YOU our listeners.

The nominees were picked based on their background - individuals who we know for a fact didn't live 'abroad' in their childhood years, and so we wondered where in the hell did they learn to speak this english even better than the original owners. lol

Do note that these young men and women have proven very successful in their endeavors as personalities on Lagos Radio and that we recognize that it has taken much more than just their remarkable voices to get them where they are today. Thus we commend their wonderful, individual and unique talents.

(Disclaimer: The Grapevine Team is not 'Beefing' any of these successful OAP's just merely stating the obvious.)

NUMBER 10

OSIKHENA DIRISU

It is with great pleasure that we introduce you to OSI, aka Osi sauve who holds down the graveyard   shift during the weekends at Beat FM.

Sharp witted and funny dude, Osi is very similar in features to M.I. Abaga and, like M.I., has a very low level tolerance for punches (must be a spark-plug syndrome).

Osi has been on Radio Professionally For 2 years before joining the Beat99.9FM. He studied Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Benin which was when he began his radio career at Rhythm FM Benin.

When asked on tips for up and coming OAPs, this was his reply "Put God first, identify your talent and build it. Drop the fake accent....." Errrm okay no comment!

Mazi'no Appeal Ofoh

NUMBER 9

No, being on the Grapevine Team does not exempt you from being on this list; which is why we have judiciously put the the very amiable Smooth FM presenter as our Number 9. Mazino Appeal, we ask, where did you get your accent from??? Or do they sell accents in Festac???

Mazino is a full born and bred (yes proudly) Festac boy. He completed his secondary school in two Festac schools (names are not necessary bcos hey who gives a.....) then went on to LASU before completing with a Masters at the Pan African university, ALL here in Lagos. So we say again - Young man where did this accent come from? At least so we can go buy ours naaa...

NUMBER 8

Matse Uwatse Ndoli
Have you ever heard anyone spit phonee with Pidgin english?? then you havent heard the lovely Matse on radio. Although she isnt technically on radio right now, there was no way we could resist not including this fine mama into this list because of the expertise of her phoneepidgin which is now (in Barney Stinson's voice) Legen... (wait for it) ...dary!

Uwatse was born on the 10th of May, 1981 in Warri, Delta State in the southern parts of Nigeria. She first attended John F. Kennedy International school in Effurun, then Our Lady's High School Effurun before moving to Federal Government College Warri. She later proceeded to Delta State University, Abraka, and had a year abroad course in French studies at Village du Benin, Togo.

So unless theres a special phonee course somewhere in West Africa, we have to ask our Warri sisteh wia she haff pick this phonee from ohh?

HIAN!!

NUMBER 7

                               Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa

So this was a very hard name to add to the list because we all know and love this very talented MC and OAP, but digging deep we have not been able to fathom how 'WildChild' gained and perfected this foreign accent that he has used to wow the whole of Africa.

IKwas born in Lagos, Nigeria to homemaker Felicia Oviawe and Brigadier General Samuel Oviawe, he started out on stage at a young age, acting in stage plays and being in the choir as early as age 7.

IK attended Kings College Lagos and The University of Lagos, where he got his start in the television industry on a show called Campus Circuit Television, which aired on Africa Independent Television.  IK confesses to have lived in almost every part of the country (We are assuming this country is Nigeria of course).

So where did these accents formulate from?

NUMBER 6

Titi & Gbemileke 'Oscar' Oyinsan
The only couple making the list and without a doubt the power couple on Radio. Proud parents of twin girls this looks and feels like a match made in Radio heaven except we would like to know where the accents came from of course.

Now we know that Titi was born in Lagos but apparently moved to the UK till she was like 3 then brought back to Nigeria (eerrm.)

Anyway we will give Titi a semi-pass for that but still we must question her better half who we know was fully born and bred in Naija!!

Gbemileke "Oscar" Oyinsan hails from Akure, Ondo State but apparently had a brief 4 year stint in London before coming to finish his secondary and university days at Olashore International School and University of Lagos respectively.

Should we give Oscar a pass because of this unexplained stint in the UK?

Over to you!!!

Our last 5 of the nominees for the On air Personality for Radio category of the L.A.F.A Awards, we are keeping to be released on Wednesday because we have some very tight contenders on that list.

Please join us on the show Tuesday and Thursday 8:15am The Grapevine on Smooth 98.1fm for the final names that you voted for.

Our SMS code is 33981 so you can text during the show and ofourse leave your comments behind as you read

All love

KIRK ANTHONY LIVES ON

A big man - both physically and metaphorically - Kirk Anthony, The Voice of Smooth 98.1 FM Lagos passed on in the late hours Friday 31st of May 2013.

Derrick first lit up Nigeria when he moved over in 2008. From that moment on, he won hearts and minds with his booming baritone, infectious laugh and welcoming personality. We can take comfort from the fact that he died in a place he loved, surrounded by people who loved him.

Kirk lives on - in his daughters, in his legacy, and, most of all, in our memories.

Derrick - from Sope, from Mazi'no, from Joehanson and from Shade Ladipo - hope you're living it up in the Big Man's House.

RIP DERRICK KIRK ANTHONY SMITH GOODEN

WHO IS THIS OBSESSED?

It's only been a month since she bought it and Taylor Swift's Rhode Island pad is already attracting the crazies!

An obsessed fan was arrested near the singer's Rhode Island beach home early yesterday morning after allegedly SWIMMING up to her pad.

Here's the back story -- around 2:20 AM, cops spotted the man getting out of the ocean, around 1 mile from Swift's home. Cops approached the guy and asked him what he was doing in the water -- and the man allegedly told police he had just completed a swim, in which he intended to meet Taylor.

Sources say ... the man told cops he swam all the way to Swift's beach, but saw her security team ... and decided to swim back to where he came from (roughly 2 miles round trip in cold water).

The man was hauled to a nearby police station where he was booked for trespassing . He's still in custody and is to appear in court on May 24.

And the Heir to the Manchester United Throne is...

The Grapevine crew is totally about entertainment, but some stories are just too big to ignore!

Something major happened in the football  world today - the rumours circulating about Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement were proved correct as this morning he announced his retirement after 27 years around the field; a move that triggered tributes from football greats.

David Moyes: The Victory Dance

But just who will be his successor? Looks like we've got a front runner in Everton manager David Moyes. The 50-year-old is out of contract in the summer and he is the first choice to take over from Fergie. The succession plan at the club is that there will not be major changes to the playing staff. There will also be no compensation payable to Everton for Moyes who has delayed signing a new deal in order, he has said in the past, to explore his options. An announcement on his future could be made as early as tomorrow so watch out for that.

Jose? Think Again

If, however, your money is on Jose "The Special One" Mourhino then think again. Senior sources at the club say there is no prospect of the club appointing the Real Madrid Manager, whom they are now convinced is already heading back to Chelsea with a deal in place.

Whoever his successor is, he's got some pretty big shoes to fill. As NPR noted, "there's a case to be made that Ferguson is the mot famous manager in the world - of any team sport.
